Veterinary orthopedic
surgical planning software
OttaCare is a desktop planning tool for canine and feline orthopedics. Import a radiograph, calibrate it to true scale, measure the tibial plateau angle, place real-size TPLO, CBLO or locking plate templates — then export the plan. Free to download, licensed per clinic, and it runs offline.
- DICOM, JPG, PNG and TIFF radiographs
- True-scale calibration in millimetres
- TPLO / CBLO osteotomy planning with rotation
- Plate and screw templates at real dimensions
- Real-size DXF export for records
- All cases stored locally on your PC
Built for the way small practices actually work
Planning software is usually priced per seat, per month, for surgeons who plan several cases a week. Most clinics do not fit that model — they plan a cruciate repair on Tuesday and a fracture on Friday, if at all. OttaCare was built for that reality.
Priced per clinic, not per case
No per-case fee and no metered cloud upload. One licence covers the clinic's planning work, whether you run one case a month or forty.
Runs offline
Cases live on your own PC. No cloud account, no per-case upload, no dependency on a stable connection in theatre.
Plan to order in one place
The template library is the Otta Care implant range, so the plate you planned is the plate you can order — with sizes, hole counts and screw lengths carried straight into your quote request.
Owner-friendly visuals
Annotated pre-op and simulated post-op images are easy to show in the consult room, which makes the conversation about surgery and cost far simpler.
Four steps from radiograph to plan
The same sequence works for a routine TPLO and for a complex corrective osteotomy.
Import the radiograph
Open a DICOM study straight from your CR/DR system, or drop in a JPG/PNG/TIFF export. Lateral views, cranio-caudal views, pre-op and post-op all work the same way.
Calibrate to true scale
Place a circular or linear ruler on a known reference and the software converts pixels into millimetres, so a 3.5 mm screw is measured as 3.5 mm on screen.
Measure and template
Draw the tibial plateau angle, the mechanical axis and the osteotomy line, then drag real-size plate templates into position — rotate, resize and compare options before the patient is on the table.
Export the plan
Save the annotated case locally, or export plate contours as a true-dimension DXF for records, implant ordering and case review with colleagues.
What you can measure before the first cut
Tibial plateau angle (TPA)
Draw the tibial long axis and the plateau line to read the TPA directly, then simulate the rotation needed to reach your target angle — no printed rotation tables.
Osteotomy position
Position the radial osteotomy line relative to the tibial plateau and the patellar tendon insertion, and check the resulting tibial long axis shift on screen.
Plate and screw selection
Drag the TPLO plate template over the planned position at real scale, then read off plate size, hole spacing and the screw lengths that will actually reach both cortices.
Post-op comparison
Import the post-operative radiograph alongside the plan and overlay the templates to check whether the achieved angle matched the target.

Frequently asked questions
Is the software free?+
The installer is free to download. The full version is unlocked with a licence key that we issue to veterinary clinics — request one from the download page or from our team. We make our living selling orthopedic implants rather than software, so the licence is priced accordingly.
Does it work without an internet connection?+
Planning, measurement and template placement all run locally on your Windows PC, and cases are stored on your own machine rather than in the cloud. An internet connection is only needed for the first activation and for template updates.
Which procedures can I plan with it?+
TPLO and CBLO osteotomies, general fracture fixation with locking and non-locking plates, tarsal arthrodesis, corrective osteotomies, and total hip replacement templating. Any procedure where you need to measure bone landmarks and place an implant template at true scale can be planned.
Can I use my own implant templates, or only Otta Care plates?+
The built-in library covers the full Otta Care range — locking plates, TPLO plates, tarsal fusion plates, screws and K-wires — drawn to real manufacturer dimensions. Because the library is ours, new sizes are added as soon as they are released.
What do I need to run it?+
Windows 10 or Windows 11, 64-bit, an Intel Core i3 or better, 4 GB of RAM and about 2 GB of free disk space. The installer is around 76 MB.
Why does Windows warn me when I install it?+
The installer is not yet code-signed with a commercial certificate, so SmartScreen shows a warning for a small publisher. Choose "More info" then "Run anyway". If your practice requires a signed build, contact us and we will provide a checksum and scan report.
Is my patient data uploaded anywhere?+
No. Images and plans stay in a local database on your computer. Nothing is uploaded to Otta Care servers, which keeps you clear of client-confidentiality and data-transfer requirements.
Download it, plan one case, decide for yourself
Download it, request a licence key, and plan a real case. If it saves you ten minutes on a cruciate repair, it has done its job.
